Best Nozzles for Pressure Washing: A Beginner's Guide

Starting up a pressure washing business or just interested in learning the basics? Nozzle are the most crucial concepts to comprehend. Aside from helping to improve cleaning, the proper nozzle preserves surfaces, saves time, and enhances the appearance of your job.

Do nozzles really matter? Why?

The spray's intensity and angle are because of the nozzles. Choosing the incorrect one can harm the surface you're cleaning or leave debris behind. For this reason, before doing any job, you, as a new business owner, should understand how each nozzle operates.

Different types of Pressure Washer Nozzles

To make it simple to determine their intensity, nozzles are color-coded. What each one does is as follows:

(Red)🔴 0° — high pressure

A very powerful stream is used for removing tough stains on concrete or metal, but it can easily damage wood, paint, or siding if used incorrectly.

(Yellow) 🟡 15° - high pressure

A strong, narrow spray that works well for driveways, sidewalks, and stubborn dirt.

(Green) 🟢 25°  – moderate pressure

The most commonly used nozzle. It’s perfect for decks, fences, and general surface cleaning.

(White) ⚪ 40° - low pressure

This is a wider, gentler spray ideal for cars, windows, and delicate surfaces.

(Black) ⚫ 65°  – for soap

This is used for applying soap at low pressure before rinsing.

Safety Tip: Beginner-friendly

  • You can start with a wider spray (40° white) and move closer slowly if needed
  • Don’t point a 0° (red) nozzle at people or fragile surfaces, as it can hurt or damage them.
  • Keep your distance to avoid streaks or damage
  • Try to test on a small area before cleaning the whole surface

Mastering each nozzle is one of the fastest ways to improve your pressure washing results. As a starter, you don’t really need expensive tools—you just need to know the right combination and enough training in proper technique.

Starting setup with a 5-piece nozzle set and a turbo nozzle can handle almost all of the pressure cleaning jobs already. As your experience grows, as the time goes by, you’ll learn exactly which nozzle works best for each situation.
